The U13 boys pulled off a remarkable achievement in winning the
Invicta U13 Six a Side Trophy on Bank Holiday Monday. It all started with 3
wins out of 3 in their Group games against Sevenoaks Vine 2 (winning off the
last ball), Kent Girls and Holmesdale. Then it was on to Tunbridge Wells in the
semi finals. CHCC were put in to bat and Rowan McDonald-Gay and Ted Paice
batted superbly to set up a challenging total of 50 off their allotted 5 overs.
Some quick wickets by Robert Vizard and Rowan put CHCC on top and they bowled T
Wells out to win by 12 runs.
In the final v Gravesend, CHCC won the toss and put the opposition in to
bat. Some tight bowling helped slow down the flow of runs and CHCC were set a
target of 39 to win. Rowan and Ted again batted magnificently to keep the score
ticking along. A tight fourth over left CHCC requiring 10 off the last over. A
few scrambled runs left the boys needing 5 off the last 2 balls. Rowan couldn't
make contact off the penultimate ball but the wicket - keeper missed it and it
went for 4 byes! A scrambled single off the last ball and victory was theirs -
without losing a wicket in the Final!
A fantastic achievement and the whole team performed magnificently.
Special mentions should go to Rowan who was named player of the tournament
(highest number of runs - 69, 4 wickets & several top catches) and Robert
Vizard who was named Best Bowler for his 5 wickets. All the boys made
vital contributions - Ted was second highest run scorer in the tournament (67
runs), Tom Creasey and Archie Steddon both bowled and fielded
excellently, whilst Ollie Berkerey did a superb job keeping wicket.
Well done boys
for a superb achievement!
